It Started With Sarah
Finding the perfect fragrance for you can bring you into the moment and remind you of who you are and what you love,” says Sarah Horowitz-Thran, founder of Sarah Horowitz Parfums, a Newbury Park, CA-based fragrance house credited with the creation of Sarah’s lines, Perfect Perfumes, Evolution Perfumes and Perfumers Palette and as well as several blockbuster private label and custom fragrances that have attracted a cult following among fashion industry insiders and celebrities across the US.
Sarah began designing custom fragrances in the late 1980s while a freshman at Emerson College, where she discovered her passion for perfumery working at Essence, an apothecary-style perfumery on Boston’s Newbury Street. There, she developed her signature process, The Fragrance Journey, designing personalized scents as a means of self-expression. After apprenticing for four years, Sarah purchased the store, honing her craft before selling her stake in 1994 to move to Los Angeles. She founded Creative Scentualization, which evolved into Sarah Horowitz Parfums and began creating custom fragrances for clients along Malibu’s beaches. Sarah’s intuitive, non-formulaic approach has earned her a loyal following and recognition as a sought-after perfumer for individuals and niche brands alike, crafting one-of-a-kind perfumes and home fragrances.
Sarah Horowitz has built her brand into a multifaceted fragrance powerhouse, seamlessly blending artistry, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Alongside her signature lines, Sarah Horowitz Parfums specializes in contract manufacturing services, managing every detail from fragrance creation to bottling and production with unmatched precision and care. Her team collaborates with niche and emerging brands to develop unique perfumes and home fragrances, ensuring each product reflects the client’s vision. Sarah’s newly opened blending bar in Newbury Park, CA, invites visitors to craft their own scents, while her event services bring custom fragrance blending to weddings, corporate gatherings, and more. Through the acquisition of Nectarine, she now offers premium fragrance oils in small quantities, perfect for independent perfumers and blending bars. With over 30 years of experience, Sarah continues to innovate, mentor new talent, and expand her impact on the fragrance industry, all while balancing her roles as a wife and mother.
